• Your Horse Live Preview with Liz Daniels

Equine | 4 November 2021

Liz Daniels, Former Professional Groom and UKCC Coach, chats about clipping at Your Horse Live, meeting Lister Ambassador Alan Davies and working for the British Grooms Association.

Having been a professional groom for many years I went to study journalism at university. I always wanted to combine my love all things equestrian with my taste for writing with the long term thought of being able to make a small difference by reporting on all things positive in our industry.

14 years ago, I sent a chance email to Lucy Katan from the British Grooms Association (BGA) to see if I could write for the magazine.  The BGA represents everyone who works with horses. They give grooms a voice as well as lots of handy practical information on working with horses, discounted insurance, and a community of like-minded people too.

My role at the BGA is very varied and includes everything PR, marketing and social media based. I get a huge amount of satisfaction knowing that we are making a positive difference to the industry and especially to the grooms who work so hard.

It was through my work at the BGA that I was lucky enough to get to know the legend that is Alan Davies. Alan was well-known on the international competition circuit before Charlotte and Valegro danced into people’s hearts and was a perfect fit for the BGA.

As well as being a Lister Ambassador, Alan is also an Ambassador for the BGA. Alan is insanely talented, exceptional at this job, but also very humble and is one of the nicest people I have been lucky enough to meet.

Having spoken to Alan multiple times for BGA blogs I finally got to meet him in person at Your Horse Live two years ago, where I am the clipping demonstrator. I was beyond excited to meet Alan and the hero that is Blueberry and enjoyed pinching some Blueberry kisses whilst helping Alan untack him after his demonstration.

Alan is the epitome of professional and always put his horses first. He is a walking encyclopaedia of equestrian knowledge and I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to interview him again for Lister this year’s Your Horse Live.

Join me in the Clippersharp Clipping and Turnout Zone, I’ll be demonstrating the Lister range on Friday at 3:30pm, chatting to Alan at 1pm on the Saturday followed by a demonstration and Sunday at 10am. See you there!
