CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD 2023.

An overview of The Golden Shears Sheep Shearing World Championships 2023 held at The Royal Highland Show.

First held in 1977, The Golden Shears takes place every 2-4 years and is held in various locations, including New Zealand, Norway, South Africa and France. Arranged initially to take place in 2022 at The Royal Highland Show, The Golden Shears was pushed back due to the coronavirus outbreak. Now in 2023, The Golden Shears went ahead with record numbers at The Royal Highland Show.

The competition ran over the course of 3 days, jam-packed with 30 countries competing in machine shearing, blade shearing and wool handling. After some very competitive shearing and wool handling, the results were in, and the champions were crowned.

Wool Handling World Champion, Rosie Keenan from Scotland.

The location for the 20th Golden Shears was also announced, and the competition’s plaque was passed over from Scotland to New Zealand.
