Welsh shearer set to make his mark with British record attempt.

Brecon-based shearer and Lister Ambassador, Lloyd Rees, has his sights on the British Lamb Record.

Brecon-based shearer and Lister Ambassador, Lloyd Rees, has his sights on the British Lamb Record.

The British Record was set in 2021 by Stuart Conner, who sheared 873 lambs in nine hours. Lloyd Rees hopes to beat the current record on the 19th of August.

Lloyd started shearing at the age of 16 and has since spent his time shearing in the UK and in New Zealand. In February of this year, Lloyd completed his 10th season over in New Zealand and even supported with the 5 Stand, 9 Hour, Strong Wool Record set by Fagan Shearing.

Since returning, Lloyd has split his time between shearing for work and competitively, as well as preparing physically and mentally for the record.

As one of Lloyd’s main sponsors, Lister will be proudly providing its equipment and expertise for the event.

Martin Booth, Head of Sales and Commercial at Lister said: "For more than 100 years, Lister has been designing high-performance equipment. But, it is not our history that defines us, it is what our users do with it that does.

"Record attempts are an opportunity to make their mark in the industry, as well as showcase their talent. Not only this, it is a fantastic way of raising the profile of shearing but inspires the future generation.

“Lloyd epitomises everything that Lister is about. Over the years, we've seen his confidence, technique, and sheer determination grow. We're proud to be part of his journey and know that Lloyd has worked incredibly hard for this. We wish him all the best in his record attempt, we will be standing alongside him all the way."

Lloyd is not only attempting the record to challenge himself but also to raise money for two important charities to him – the Welsh Air Ambulance Service and Parkinson’s UK. To donate, please click here.

The shearing record will take place on Friday, August 19, at Blaenbwch Farm, near Builth between 5am and 5pm.
